Russian Wedding Customs

Russian wedding customs are quite simpler than western customs mainly due to economic conditions and for their propensity for simplicity rather than vulgar spending. At the same time, there are similarities that you will recognize.

The rich history of a marriage ceremony

The first of the most recognizable Russian wedding customs is that many ceremonies last two or more days. There is typically no engagement; rather the man will give flowers, as opposed to an engagement ring. They will be married within a few months of this engagement, assuming that they have filled out the proper registration papers and other legal documents. When this is done, then they will begin to make plans for a wedding.

Russian wedding customs don’t include a best man or bridesmaids. The bride usually makes her own wedding gown and a long train of black cars to carry the bride and her family is something that makes the wedding more ostentatious. Wedding bands are simple and gold, worn on the right ring finger, rather than the left hand. The left hand ring finger is reserved for wedding rings from deceased or divorced spouses.

Incorporating Russian wedding customs into your wedding will help your bride to be more at ease, if you are marrying in the west, rather than in her hometown. Of course, if you can get married in her town or village, all the better. A bride will know for sure that you care that she is comfortable and that her family can be there.
